How to Plan a Senior Photoshoot That Truly Represents YOU.
Senior year is filled with important decisions, so here’s a simple guide to help you plan a graduation session that truly reflects who you are. From choosing a location that matches your personality to picking outfits that feel authentic, these tips will help you create photos that look amazing and feel unmistakably you.
Congratulations Damaris!
Your senior year represents a huge milestone, and your photos should celebrate the person you are right now. It is not only about the moment you graduate, but everything it took to get here. A senior session is your chance to honor your growth, your hard work, and the version of yourself you are stepping into.
Liz loves the desert and wanted to have traditional senior portraits as well as some moody portraits that emphasize her western style and her love for the desert.
Here are 5 Steps to planning a Senior Photoshoot That Truly Represents YOU.
1. Choose a location that matches your vibe
Your photos shouldn’t just look good, they should feel like places you actually connect with. If you love the outdoors, let’s head out to the Saguaro National Park or hike up Mt. Lemmon! If you’re artsy or modern, downtown 4th Ave or moody studio setup might fit better. Maybe you were a student athlete and feel most at home on the field! Let’s find what represents your time as a student best.
2. Pick outfits that feel like your real style
Think less about what you “should” wear and more about what you actually feel confident in. Whether that’s your favorite casual “going to class” outfit or what you like to dress up in! This could even be a sports or music uniform! Don’t forget to bring your cap and gown too!*
3. Bring personal elements
Sports gear, instruments, art equipment, pets, your favorite jacket, your skateboard…anything that tells your story. Small details can say a lot about who you are, what you love, and what makes your senior year special.
4. Think about the mood you want
Soft and dreamy? Bold and dramatic? Edgy and modern? Colorful and bright? Your session can reflect a full aesthetic. If you’re not sure what style you like most, create a Pinterest board and look for patterns. The clothing you wear and props you bring can also influence the mood of your photoshoot.
5. Enjoy the celebration!
Remember to take care of yourself the night before your session (and always). When you feel rested, confident, and genuinely yourself, your photos will reflect it.
*Pro Tip: Make sure you iron and hang your gown the night before your photoshoot!
